EUSS Advice and Support in Leicester
From the beginning of the year until March 2025, we have supported over 65 EU and non-EU citizens in Leicester. We have made over 13 applications to the EU Settlement Scheme and provided one-off advice and different types of support , including support without submitting applications for our service users.
Although the complexity of the cases that we are seeing remains high, new issues have started to arise in the past months. We have received a number of complaints from people that their status shows as expired on their online account. NEUK has contacted the Resolution Centre and they confirmed that it was a ‘system error’ and their statuses would be back online in a few weeks time. Unresolved, this type of error is capable of causing people a lot of inconvenience inside the UK, as well as for those coming back at the border.
We are also seeing people that are separated from their EU spouses and will need to apply to the Settlement Scheme on their own and they are worried they might face issues due to the fact that they are not in a relationship with a EU spouse anymore and how this will affect their immigration status in the UK.
NEUK continues to receive referrals from our partners in Leicester, including from our external partners such as Red British Cross and Women for Change.
Outreach
We have attended and enjoyed a number of activities and events organised by local organisations in Leicester in the past months.
We joined Leicester City’s Active Women Project at their annual event. This wonderful event, brought together women of different backgrounds with the purpose of keeping them active and healthy.
Also, we joined Working Wednesday on one of their weekly Morning Coffees, where loads of networking happens and you get to know more about what services are provided around Leicester City.
In February we were invited by HealthWatch in one of their monthly sessions on mental health and wellbeing in partnership with Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, where we had the chance to have a chat with their service users of South Asian backgrounds about our services in Leicester.
We continue to run our free cliniques twice per week, on Wednesdays at De Montford University and Fridays at Highfields Centre.
