eVisas are a key part of delivering a border and immigration system which will be ‘digital by default’ by 2025. The Home Office is currently in the process of transitioning away from a physical system of proving immigration status to a digital system.  It intends that from 1st January 2025, individuals will no longer require a physical immigration document but will be able to prove their immigration status through accessing an online “eVisa” system.

We have created a new resource in response to the introduction of the new eVisa system. It includes important information on what it means for pre-settled / settled status holders, and what are the next steps.

What does this mean for you?  If travelling in and out of the UK after 31/12/2024, we recommend to take with you:

  • Your expired BRC;
  • Your pre-settled / settled status outcome letter;
  • A screenshot of your UKVI account / digital status page showing your photo, name and status;
  • A share code generated before departing

For more information on eVisas please visit our resources.

More recently, if you are an EU citizen with pre-settled / settled status you may have also received an email from the Home Office regarding eVisas.

You do not need to take any action or apply for an eVisa despite receiving the email. This is because you already have an eVisa, which is your digital immigration status.

Additionally, you must make sure that your digital immigration status is linked to your current valid ID document.

If you are a non-EU citizen with pre-settled / settled status, please be aware that the full introduction of eVisas has been postponed until at least 31 March 2025 according to the latest communication from the Home Office.

Please note that the above information may change in line with the Home Office’s newest guidelines – keep yourself updated.
