The next APPG on Citizens’ Rights will be chaired by Baroness Goudie and held on November 5th at 3.15pm in the House of Lords and online.

The APPG looks at the challenges facing EU citizens in the UK and Britons abroad. This time we will focus on oversight and mechanisms for influencing the Home Office policy and practice in implementing the EU Settlement scheme.

The APPG will hear from:

David Neal, Former Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration
Mihai Calin Bica, Policy and Campaigns Coordinator, Roma Support Group
Helena Geach, Deputy Director – Operational Stakeholder Engagement, Independent Monitoring Authority
Rhys Davies, General Counsel, Independent Monitoring Authority

Five years on from Brexit, the continued struggle of tens of thousands of vulnerable EU citizens in applying for pre-settled and settled status goes unreported.

The Home Office in turn has become more stringent in its response to EU citizens, who have yet to achieve their status. In fact very few opportunities now exist to monitor or report on any unintended consequences of policy changes and practices on those protected by the Withdrawal Agreement.

The APPG on Citizens’ Rights works across-parties to help secure immigration status and the rights set out under the Withdrawal Agreement after Brexit, and to improve voting rights and representation.

It is chaired by Liberal Democrat MP, Manuela Perteghella. The other officers of the APPG are Labour peer Baroness Goudie, Labour MP James Asser, and Conservative peer Lord Balfe.

A further 20 parliamentarians with an interest in the issues we focus on are registered as members of the APPG.

Please send an email to appg@neweuropeans.uk or else.kvist@neweuropeans.uk if you would like to attend the APPG in person.
