How we help particularly vulnerable communities in Leicester
We offer legal advice and support on EUSS to particularly vulnerable communities in Leicester.
We are developing partnerships with 3 community groups and organisations over 2 years to offer support to EU citizens and their families, and develop the ‘voice’ of these communities.
We are creating a sustainable support legal advice network for EU communities by supporting volunteers to gain OISC 1 accreditation and case work experience.
In the city of Leicester EU/EEA citizens who have applied for EUSS comprise almost one third of the population. They are one of the largest groups in the UK outside London and include a range of nationalities, the largest being, Portuguese, Polish, Italian and Romanian.
The number of people in Leicester with Pre-Settled status is high in these populations, some 66,490 individuals. Refusals are also higher than average among some of these nationalities.
Work with us
We are working on the development of an immigration advice services in Leicester City for vulnerable EU citizens, with Pre Settled Status who need to reapply and other migrants.
We will offer a supported immigration service and build the capacity of generic community groups to recognise those in need, how they can help, and sign-post them to appropriate immigration advice.
We will also collaborate with existing advice networks and the local authority to raise awareness of the need for immigration advice and support for a range of groups.
We will offer ongoing training and assistance to council staff, landlords and employers to understand the nature of immigration status and minimise harm.
